Is Audible Worth the Money?

Audible is the world’s most well-known audiobook service. For years, their «one new audiobook per month» subscription has been a popular choice, but they’re now attempting to shake things up and become the ultimate audio streaming service in general. We’ll see if the industry leader is (still) worth the money in this Audible review.

We’ll learn all about Audible’s newest subscription options, why its unique features make it such a great option for audiobooks, and whether it’s really worth it for you, based on your specific circumstances. Here’s a quick table of contents to help you jump to any section you’re interested in:
Take a seat, and let’s dive right into our Audible review, beginning with the most frequently asked questions about the service.

Audible Review (FAQ)

1. How many books do you get from Audible each month?

There are two types of memberships available at Audible. The traditional one-credit-per-month Audible Premium Plus plan allows you to keep a title from their library and listen to any title they have. They also have a new cheaper option called Audible Plus, which is similar to a streaming audiobook service where you can listen to as many as you want for a month at a time.

2. What is the true cost of Audible?

Audible Plus costs $7.95 per month and allows you to listen to any book in the library (but not keep it). Audible Premium Plus costs $14.95 per month and includes everything that Audible Plus does, plus a monthly credit to choose any audiobook from their library to keep.

3. What is the total number of audiobooks available on Audible?

On Audible, there are over 200,000 audiobooks to choose from. I’ve been using it for years and have yet to find a feature that I don’t like. It’s also usually the first to get new bestsellers, and many audiobooks are only available through Audible.

4. Is Audible included in Prime?

With an Amazon Prime membership, Audible is not free. However, if you sign up for a free trial of Audible Premium Plus, you will be able to keep two audiobooks instead of just one!

5. Is it possible to get Audible for free?

You can try Audible for 30 days for free. Then, depending on which plan you chose, your subscription will renew on a monthly basis. Even after the free trial, if you subscribe to Audible Premium Plus, you’ll get at least one audiobook to keep. You can listen to any audiobook in their library for free for 30 days if you purchase Audible Plus.

6. Do I need an Audible subscription?

To keep the books you’ve purchased or received as part of a free trial, you don’t need an Audible subscription. You won’t be able to listen to unlimited audiobooks in their library or use credits to buy audiobooks if you don’t have a subscription.

7. If I cancel my Audible subscription, will I still be able to listen to it?

You can keep the books you received as part of a free trial or purchased with credits or otherwise if you cancel your Audible subscription. I’ve gone through periods where I didn’t have an active Audible subscription and was still able to listen to any book in my library.
