Dune Audiobook – Dune Frank Herbert

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune tells the story of the young Paul Atreides, who grows up to become the mysterious Maud’dib. He would avenge his noble family’s betrayal – and bring to fruition humanity’s most ancient and unattainable dream.

Dune, a stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and served as the foundation for what is unquestionably science fiction’s grandest epic.

Frank Herbert’s death in 1986 was a tragic loss, but his incredible legacy of visionary fiction will live on in perpetuity.

Frank Herbert

Frank Herbert, full name Frank Patrick Herbert, (born October 8, 1920 in Tacoma, Washington, U.S.—died February 11, 1986 in Madison, Wisconsin), American science-fiction writer best known for his best-selling Dune series of futuristic novels, a group of highly complex works that explore themes such as ecology, human evolution, the consequences of genetic manipulation, and mystical and psychic possibilities.

Herbert worked a variety of jobs while writing socially engaged science fiction until 1972, when he began writing full-time. He was a journalist when the epic Dune (1965) was published, which was translated into 14 languages and sold more than 12 million copies, more than any other science-fiction book in history; ironically, Dune had been rejected by 20 publishers before it was published. Alejandro Jodorowsky, a Chilean-French director, attempted an unsuccessful film adaptation in 1975, which was documented in the documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune (2013). Dino De Laurentiis bought the rights in 1976, and David Lynch directed an adaptation (1984). A miniseries aired on television in 2000, followed by another in 2003 that covered the events in the second and third Dune books. Denis Villeneuve, a French Canadian director, released another film adaptation based on the first half of Dune in 2021.

Dune Messiah (1969), Children of Dune (1976), God-Emperor of Dune (1981), Heretics of Dune (1984), and Chapterhouse: Dune are the novels in the Dune series (1985). In the late 1990s, Herbert’s son Brian began working with Kevin J. Anderson on a series of Dune prequels, using some of his father’s notes. Dune: House Atreides was released in 1999, followed by Dune: House Harkonnen (2000) and Dune: House Corrino (2002). (2001). Dune: The Butlerian Jihad (2002), Dune: The Machine Crusade (2003), Dune: The Battle of Corrin (2004), Hunters of Dune (2006), Sandworms of Dune (2007), The Winds of Dune (2009), Sisterhood of Dune (2012), and Mentats of Dune (2013) are among the other entries (2014).

The highly acclaimed Dragon in the Sea (1956), The Green Brain (1966), The Santaroga Barrier (1968), The Heaven Makers (1968), The God Makers (1972), and The Dosadi Experiment (1972) are among Herbert’s more than two dozen novels (1977).
