«One Night in Miami» follows a youthful, cocky Cassius Clay as he emerges from the Miami Beach Convention Center as the new Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World on February 25, 1964.
Against all odds, he stunned the sports world by defeating Sonny Liston. While throngs swarm Miami Beach to celebrate the match, Clay, unable to stay on the island due to Jim Crow-era segregation rules, spends the evening with three of his closest friends: Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown, at the Hampton House Motel in Miami’s African American Overtown district. During this historic event, these giants expressed their ideas to one another about their obligations as influencers, standing up, defending their rights, and bringing the country forward to equality and empowerment for all black people. The four men emerge the next morning, determined to create a new world for themselves and their community.
