A Life No One Will Remember. A Story You Will Never Forget.
Addie LaRue, 23, is to marry a widower with three children in the French town of Villon-sur-Sarthe in 1714. Addie runs to the forest, where she prays to beings she refers to as «the old gods,» refusing to accept a life of rural domesticity. As the sun begins to go beyond the horizon, a dark-haired, green-eyed stranger approaches and grants her wish: perpetual life for as long as she desires. Addie will surrender her soul to the stranger the day she grows too exhausted or bored of life to continue.
Addie discovers a big limitation to her immortal existence once the stranger granted her request: no one remembers her. Worse, she is unable to form new or reignite old relationships since whenever she is apart from someone for a second, that person forgets about her.
